ABOUT US

Est-Alfa Kennel established in 1982 and register by FCI in 1993. Dogs from Est – Alfa Kennel participated in several dog shows in Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Austria, Russia and USA and received various high honors with his Caucasian and Central Asian Ovcharka in Russia and Europe. Kennel “Est-Alfa” produced World Champion, Bests in Show and numerous Champions and Winners. In 1993 kennel was relocated from Estonia (former USSA republic) to USA. Presently, kennel has over 40 dogs. Est-Alfa Kennel specializes in breeding, training and supplying guard dogs (specifically Caucasian Ovcharka, also known as Caucasian Mountain Dog). Est-Alfa Kennel supplies dogs worldwide, mostly in USA and Canada to be used by farmers, property or personal protection dogs. For the past 30 years Est-Alfa Kennel owned and operated by Mr. Platunov.

Mr. Platunov started his canine activity in the Estonia in 1980 with Working Dog Club of Voluntary Society for Promotion of Army, Air Force and Navy ( DOSAAF). In 1984 Mr. Platunov complete Canine Handler Special Course and received Certificate as Working Dogs Trainer/ Instructor. Also, in 1985, after Mr. Platunov completed course of Working Dogs Judge - Expert (educational programs, seminars and classes), DOSAAF licensed Mr. Platunov as Judge for Working Dogs. He has served as a judge in dog shows in Russia, Estonia, and Latvia. In period of 1984-85 Mr. Platunov started his professional career as Trainer for canine obedience and protection by conducting classes and training with members of the Working Dog Club of DOSAAF and their dogs. In 1985, with his own dog, he joined the Soviet Army (USSR) for the Special Emergency Rescue Forces Canine Training Center in South Ural. In the Center Mr. Platunov continued his professional growing and completed course Explosive Devices Detection Canine Handler and Mine Detection Dogs Handler. Field experience 1985-1986 as MDD Handler in Afghanistan. After wounding and recovery, he was returned to Training Center in South Ural. From 1986 to 1987 Canine Handler and Trainer/Instructor. In 1987 he was honorably discharge from USSR Army.

In his past Mr. Platunov worked as Instructor of K-9 Security Department of Military Kennel of High Clearance Security at the South Ural Railway (Cheliabinsk City) for the Department of Transportation. He supervised and performed tracking, explosive detection, patrol training and actual work for over 120 guard/detection dogs in the kennel. In 1990 Mr. Platunov started his work for the Department of Trade as the Kennel Master, Trainer - Instructor of K-9 Security Department. He trained guard dogs in explosives detection as well as patrol. In 1990 Mr. Platunov founded Kohla-Jarve Kennel Club and organized annual dog shows in Estonia and working trials for dogs. He served as president of Breeding and Judging Commissions. At the same time he founded Est–Alfa Kennel that was named after the dog, who saved his life in Afghanistan few years before.

Mr. Platunov was a member of RKF (Russian Kinological Federation); member of Estonian Kennel Club and Honor President of Kings County Kennel Club of NY; member of Russian Imperial Association of correct hunting and purebred dogs. In a past he was a member and president of the North American Section of several International Breed Clubs of the Caucasian Ovcharka, Central Asian Ovcharka, South Russian Ovcharka and Black Russian Terrier.

In 2010 Mr. Platunov founded and presided over “ Caucasian Ovcharka Club USA, Inc.” – non–profit organization .The Caucasian Ovcharka Club USA (COCUSA) is dedicated to upholding the integrity of its Registry, promoting the sport of Caucasian Ovcharka purebred dogs and breeding for type and function. Founded in 2010, uniting the pre-existing kennels,“one-dog-owners” and unprofessional breeders, COCUSA advocate for the purebred Caucasian dog as a family guardian and companion, proclamation dignity of the breed and its working quality, advance canine health and well-being, work to protect the rights of all dog owners and promote responsible dog ownership.
